In plain words

One's own karma, once it is fixed and binding, comes circling round; into whatever state it may put you, until you live it out just as it puts you, there is no end to it. Feet uppermost, ‘Hang there without dying,’ heads downward: did anyone at all tie them so to that tree? For the bats, what came is nothing but karma, O man!

Birds move about in the sky with the help of their wings. In the same way the bat, which has wings, also moves about. The branch of a tree is its own home. But, unlike other birds, it hooks its feet onto the branch, keeps its head down, and passes its life. Is that not its karma! Whatever anyone may say, each must experience the karma they have done. This is the way of the world. What the great have done does not pass the great by, nor what the ignorant have done the ignorant. However long man may live, wherever he may go, the results of the karma he has done keep following him like a shadow. But by God's grace one can escape them. Whatever man may say, whatever he may do, God keeps blessing it, saying, ‘So be it, so be it.’ But man goes about without heeding this truth. Though he knows both good and bad, he does not give up the bad; he does not practise the good. He covers up the wrong he has done and goes about as though he knew nothing.
