In plain words
But some egoists try to ‘test’ God, saying, ‘We shall see how God does this.’ God is not one to be caught by a ‘test’. That ‘test’ turns into a ‘waste’. Bad qualities such as Ahaṅkāra, envy and hatred bring man down to ruin. These bad qualities can do nothing to those who have become worthy of God's grace. So we must become worthy of God's grace. We must keep up ‘sarvadā sarvakāleṣu sarvatra haricintanaṃ’. For this very reason Swami teaches many kinds of sādhana. Singing the Name is one of them. No one knows who will have to leave the body, or when. Yamadharmarāja may come at any moment and cast his noose. He does not care whether that person is doing a good deed or a bad deed at that moment. One may drop even in the very act of singing the Name. So man must stay ready, thinking of God without a break. He must win God's grace and do the sādhana fit for escaping the result of karma. There is no need to fear, thinking, “Alas, there is no escaping this.” By God's grace one can escape everything.
Prayer wards off any suffering
Embodiments of Prema! However many kinds of sādhana you do, you must not give up the thought of God even for a minute. Only then can God protect you. Do not do things that take you far from God's grace. Through prayer you can achieve anything. But you need not pray aloud; it is enough to pray in the mind. Some are afraid: “If we do not pray aloud, will God protect us or not?” God is the Dweller in your heart. So He keeps hearing your prayers. If you want to become worthy of God's grace, you must keep thinking of God without a break, in your mind and in your heart. The body is not important.
