Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

True education springs from the heart. Here the heart does not mean the ‘physical heart’. The moment a child is born, they look to see whether its heart is beating properly or not. The heart is vital to life. But what we must rely on is not the ‘physical heart’; we must rely on the ‘spiritual heart’. Another name for the heart is ‘conscience’. We must make it our support. In every human being, from the nails to the crown of the head, Ānanda is dancing. But one does not oneself know of the Ānanda within oneself. What kind of Ānanda is it? ‘Nityānandaṃ paramasukhadaṃ kevalaṃ jñānamūrtiṃ dvandvātītaṃ...’ It is Ānanda beyond duality. So long as there is duality, there is no Ānanda. So we must attain the state beyond duality and recognise ‘Unity’. From ‘Unity’ comes ‘Purity’. Only from ‘Purity’ does it become possible to go on to ‘Divinity’. Only one who spends one's life in these three, ‘Unity’, ‘Purity’, ‘Divinity’, is a true human being. Food, sleep, fear and mating: even cattle, birds and beasts experience these. If you, born as human beings, live like beasts, what is the use? First of all, develop ‘Unity’. Live in unity, like brothers, like sisters. At meetings, speakers address everyone as ‘brothers and sisters’. But do they really regard everyone as sisters and brothers? In fact, today ‘Unity’ is not to be seen even among one's own brothers, among one's own sisters. In unity alone is there Ānanda. Our life itself is a great tree. All our kin are like its branches and twigs. Thoughts of God and feelings for God alone are the ‘flowers’ in it. From those ‘flowers’ alone we gain the fruit called Ānanda. If you do not enjoy the fruit called Ānanda, what is the use of your being born as human beings!

Prema alone is the chief education you must learn

Students! Do study the worldly studies too. Making this the basis for life in the world, you must strive for inward education.
