Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

So have no connection at all with the body. The moment you forget the body, then and only then can you recognise the Indweller.

In the world, all are zeros! The Ātma alone is the hero!

Ask any of our children, ‘Where is God?’ They will say, ‘He is everywhere.’ In truth, you yourself are God. But because of attachment to the body, you are unable to know this truth. This body will not last for ever. It is here today and gone tomorrow. As long as the body lasts, you say ‘I’. After losing the body, who is ‘I’? If you inquire in this way, all the things you see in this world are nothing but zeros. Only the principle of the Ātma called ‘I’, which is not seen anywhere, is the hero. You are not zero. You are a hero. The principle of the Ātma alone moves this body made of blood and flesh. That itself is ‘I’. But thinking that the body, which is like a passing cloud, is ‘I’, you are building up attachment to the body. You have taken on the body only in order to know the principle of the Ātma, which is eternal, true and abiding. You must use this body for that task alone for which it came into being. You must use this body as a tool for knowing yourself. Beyond that, you must not foster attachment to the body.

Attachment to the Ātma is itself spirituality

Today even very highly educated people spend their lives in mere attachment to the body. This ‘attachment’ alone brings us grief and sorrow. Give up ‘attachment’ to the body and gain ‘attachment’ to the principle of the Ātma. ‘I must see Rāma’, ‘I must see Kṛṣṇa’: so you long, out of attachment to the body. With attachment to the body you cannot see the principle of the Ātma. The Ātma has no ‘attachment’ of any kind. It is in you, it is in Me, it is in everyone. ‘The one Ātma is the inner Ātma of all beings.’ You are that very inner Ātma of all beings.
