In plain words
Students! Education has a goal. It is Satya. Forget Satya, and whatever you learn cannot be education. It is mere worldly schooling. In this world there are educated people by the crore. But what are all of them doing? Helping others is nowhere to be seen. Only the number of the ‘educated’ keeps on growing. Spiritual education alone is true education. It alone proves God. These material studies serve only to fill the belly and to keep a family. They are good only for winning over the world; for the uplift of the Ātma they do nothing whatever. The end of education is character. Without the wealth of character, however much there may be, it serves no purpose. The feeling within and the action without must be one. If that very quality is lacking, all these studies are useless. The studies we pursue must foster Bhakti and nourish unity. Only through unity do we gain divinity.
One without the wealth of character is no better than a beast
Modern education only stirs up selfishness. Wherever you look, it is all selfishness, selfishness! True education fosters selfless Prema. Only those who give up selfishness and labour for the good of others are truly educated. Helping others brings merit; harming others brings sin. Before doing any task, man today considers whether or not it will serve his selfish ends. He forgets the truth that the very Ātma that is in him is in all. You must give up selfishness and experience the principle of the Ātma. Only then does the heart become pure. The Ātma is called the power of consciousness.
