Passage 4

In plain words

If you dig a pit, it becomes a mound. All this earth taken out turns into a mound. Pour that earth into the pit. The mound is gone. What difference is there between the pit and the mound? The difference is only the earth. In the same way, if you fill your heart with God, that very heart will be a mound. ‘Heart’ does not mean this physical heart. It is the hṛdaya. That is why they called God the Dweller in the Heart. The heart is in everyone. So everyone must broaden the heart that is in each one. Then only broad feelings arise in us. If the heart is small, only petty thoughts come. We are not petty human beings. God in human form. So we must become human beings with a good and pure heart. So, when I have bhajans sung or give discourses, it is for the heart to grow. When you go out on nagarasaṅkīrtana at dawn, the heart swells. It is not idle singing. It is saṅkīrtana. You must sing kīrtana with a broad feeling. Instead of enjoying it by yourself alone, you must share it with many. When you share this Name with all, how greatly the heart overflows! Whatever you do, whatever you say, whatever you see, the heart must grow. Only then may I call you ‘great-hearted’. Only then will you have made your humanness worthwhile. So you must develop the heart, make the heart large, and share that large heart with all the people. But now there is selfishness: without setting his own heart right, and forgetting however many faults lie in his heart, he alone must be great, my family alone must be safe, my one family alone must have wealth. This is very bad. Everyone wishes just as you do, don't they! The very wish you have, they have too. So, love is one, live in love. This itself is true Prema. The narrow feeling must not arise that Prema means only my husband, my children, my wife and my kin must be safe. All must be as one. If all are to be as one, how must we be? My God Himself is in everyone. ‘Without Him I cannot exist’: so we must keep God in thought everywhere. We must hold the feeling, ‘As much as I suffer when pain comes to me, so much do others suffer when I hurt them.’ For all of this, Prema is the one thing. So, all of you, develop Prema. That Prema is not yours alone. The sorrows that came to me must not come to anyone. Others must not suffer as I do. Everyone must be happy. Everyone must progress. So, for this to come about: when we develop Prema, no narrow feeling of any kind arises.

With a mind delighting in Prema, say Rāma Rāma Rām.........
