In plain words
To conquer the senses is true Mukti
Wherever you look in this world, wherever you search, there is no substance at all but the five elements. Our hand has five fingers. If by chance a sixth finger should grow, and you go to the doctor, he operates and takes it off. It ought not to be there. In the same way, every person has five senses. Conquering these senses is itself true Mukti. Without conquering the senses, it is impossible to attain Mukti. ‘Oh, Swami, this is not possible for us!’ you think. What is there in the world that you cannot do! If you hold on firmly, you can achieve anything. You have the power to attain God Himself; conquering the senses is no great hardship for you. The senses are very petty things. If you cannot control them, you are not human beings at all. If you want to make this rare human birth worthwhile, you must achieve this without fail. If you give in to even one sense, you only become small, and cannot become great. ‘Daivaṃ mānuṣarūpeṇa’, it has been said. You have attained so sacred a humanness, and still you say, ‘We cannot conquer the senses’: what madness! We may say that one who gives in to the senses is lower than a demon.
Only one who has the Prema of the Ātma is a true human being
Since you have been born human, you must grow into noble people. You may hold your wife and children dear. But you must not make a difference between ‘my people’ and ‘outsiders’. All are the very forms of God! From God, only God is born. Among all there is this kind of close kinship. Every single thing we see in the world belongs to God. Divinity is present in every object and in every living being. Divinity is there in a grain of sand, and also in a crystal of sugar. The whole universe is the very form of Viṣṇu. The whole universe is one single family. So Prema for the whole universe must dawn in you. That itself is the Prema of the Ātma. Only when you nurture such Prema do you become human beings.
