In plain words
Even if the one who comes before you hates you, greet him with Prema. You must not hold back your greeting out of the scornful feeling, ‘He is my enemy.’ When he accepts your greeting, he will offer you his greeting too. All are our friends! In the world we have no enemies at all. Enmity is very bad. Friendship alone is what we must seek. We must develop the feeling of oneness, ‘You and I are one.’ If you want the vision of God, first regard every person you see as God. Greet him with Prema: ‘Hello, brother!’ Today people say hello on the surface, but look inside the heart and it is hallow, empty. We must love every person. We must have faith in God. One who has no faith in God is no human being at all. We must regard faith in God as our very breath. Only when we hold fast to faith in God do we become people who hold fast to Prema.
Doubt is a mortal peril
Embodiments of Prema! What came with us when we were born is Prema alone. Where there is Prema, Satya arises. Only when Satya and Prema both come together does humanness live. Without a foundation we cannot build walls. Self-confidence is the foundation. Self-satisfaction is the walls. Sacrifice of selfishness is the roof. Self-realisation is life. So, if you want self-realisation, you must have self-confidence. Without self-confidence you cannot attain Ānanda. Man today has nothing but doubt about everything! Nothing but doubt! How can one who cannot trust himself trust God! First of all, one must trust oneself. ‘Doubt is a mortal peril,’ they said. One who is tormented by doubt cannot trust anyone. In the end he cannot trust even his own wife and children. So first of all we must nurture self-confidence.
‘Of all creatures, a human birth is the hardest to gain’
We think we are very great; we think we are great scholars.
