In plain words
The kinds of cloth are many, the material is one! The ornaments are many; the gold is one!” In the same way, the principle of the Ātma that is in all is one!
Seeing people of every country and every religion come here, some, out of envy, went on making up false stories against Swami and spreading them. ‘Swami's fame grows from day to day!’ they thought, and ‘jealousy’ swelled up in them. Out of such envy they made up baseless stories, invented all kinds of bad things and put them in the papers... This is how it went on. Recently a meeting was held in London. Some people gathered there and refuted this slander. Suri, a retired Air Chief Marshal, stood up to this slander. He argued in many ways with those who were spreading the slander. Refuting the bad things they were writing, he too wrote in the newspapers. With that the slander stopped. “If you want to write about Sathya Sai Baba, you should stay near Sathya Sai Baba, examine Him in every way, experience Him yourselves, and only after that write; it is not good for you to spread slander after hearing someone or other's words,” he admonished them.
What comes of listening to someone or other's words? Did they see for themselves? Did they hear? They have no faith even in their own words. That being so, how can they believe the words of others? This slander went on creeping into every country. It came to India too. These people here went on following the foreign papers and the slander coming from abroad. But they have no experience at all in this matter. In this way, spreading slander, they tried somehow to bring Swami a bad name. But this is beyond anyone. Not today alone but for all time, anyone at all must yield to Swami's Prema; it is in no one's power to lessen Swami's name and renown. The name ‘Sai’ will stand for ever. It is eternal. No one can change it. People may talk however it strikes them. The tongue has no bone. It turns whichever way you like. Not only this. Only the tree that bears fruit is pelted with stones! In the same way, those who do good work are the very ones who meet many troubles and losses. However many come, when we rely on Satya, no one can shake us.
