In plain words
I do not ask that you become great scholars. Many people have pursued great studies. But what good have they all done for the world? They have done nothing. Kalam pursued great studies and dedicated himself to the service of society. You too, serve and make society happy. Only when you make society happy will your life find its fulfilment. Only when you give society the help it needs will you have brought Ānanda to Swami.
Dr Rāmśeṭṭi's family and their spirit of sacrifice
Yesterday Dr Rāmśeṭṭi said, full of joy, ‘Swami! I will not go back to America; I must spend my life right here.’ His son too is a son worthy of his father! He too is a doctor. He too said, ‘We will not stand in the way of your wish at all.’ He, his wife, his son and his daughter, the four of them together, built this stadium. They sold their houses, their lands, everything, brought that money and paid it into the bank. In a great spirit of sacrifice they gave forty crores. To how many does such a great spirit of sacrifice come! These days, if some beggar comes to the front of a house and says, ‘Bhavati bhikṣāṃ dehi’, people snap at him, ‘Go away, go away.’ But that such a spirit of sacrifice has come to those in that family: what good fortune! The daughter is a doctor, the son is a doctor. They have no interest in petty sensual pleasures. To obey Swami's command is what matters to them. Is this worldly pleasure any pleasure at all! From it come nothing but sorrows! They believed with purity of thought, word and deed that true Śānti and happiness are found in nothing else but the spiritual alone. Is such a spirit of sacrifice, such Vairāgya, possible for everyone! It is the fruit of the merit of their former births.
Students! Study, marry, have children, live happily. But never give up the thought of God. Whatever path you follow, do not forget God. Attain Prema for God. That itself is the fruit of the blessing Swami gives you today. Proclaim this divine Name in every street. Only then will divinity emerge in all.
