Passage 10

In plain words

You are not reading the lives of such great men; you are reading all sorts of senseless books. What you are learning today is not ‘history’ but ‘hysteria’! No one is reading real ‘history’. What is real ‘history’? His story is history. Man today is pursuing great studies, mastering science and technology, and winning the Nobel prize. But he misuses ‘technology’ and turns it into mere ‘trick-nology’. Not all that we read stays in our heads; only what we put into practice stays. If we put into practice even one thing of what we read, it is enough; that alone will help us in every way.

Students, embodiments of Prema! You may study anything at all. But human values you must never forget. Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema, Ahiṃsā: cultivate these and put them into practice. Your whole life will flow on serenely. This, above all, is what I wish to tell you today! If, moment by moment, we keep falling prey to anger, vexation, envy, jealousy, vanity and the other evil qualities, our whole life will sink in unrest. Satya is eternal. Only when you follow Satya will your name endure forever. Only with eternal Satya will you gain eternal Śānti.
