In plain words
‘Help ever, hurt never.’ We must not hurt anyone. ‘Love all, serve all.’ We must love everyone. That Prema reaches divinity. Prema alone draws everyone.
The Ātma is realised only by giving up selfishness
To keep divinity within ourselves, fancy it is somewhere else, and scramble after it: that is ignorance. We must have the ‘self-confidence’ that divinity is within us. When there is self-confidence, then alone does self-satisfaction come. Once self-satisfaction has come, then alone will you give up selfishness. The moment you give up selfishness, at that very moment the Ātma is realised. So realisation of the Ātma is not something you fetch from outside. Ask any millionaire and see. If you put the question, ‘Sir, are you well?’: ‘I have money, and houses too. Everything is there, but there is no peace of mind,’ he says. Peace is not outside; it is within us alone. You feel you have no ‘peace’ only because you break into ‘pieces’ the ‘peace’ that is within you.
Keeping no distinction of any kind, we must live together in unity through Prema. In this world we all belong to one family. Instead of all of us living as one family, we think of ourselves as separate and are ruining the country. We must give no room to any distinction. The Veda has said, ‘Not by action, not by offspring, not by wealth; by renunciation some have attained immortality.’ Money is here today and gone tomorrow. Nothing lasts for ever. ‘Consciousness’ (the principle of the Ātma) alone is permanent. We must make that our support. If, keeping no distinction, we hold to the feeling that the principle of the Ātma in all is one, joy will come to everyone. “He is happy. I am sad”: why do distinctions like this arise? Sorrow and pleasure are not two separate things. Pleasure is an interval between two pains.
