Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Only when we begin thinking of God in this way, from childhood itself, do we find good teachers and good friends. If you join bad people and want to become good, will you become so? Never. Only when you join good company can you become good. We must earn the name of good people. Man is good; he is not like a beast. But man today behaves not like a man but like Kīcaka. Not like Kīcaka: we must be like Arjuna. That is, we must live with purity of mind, with sacred Prema, without any cravings. We must sacrifice selfishness. What does sacrifice mean? We must examine what is eternal and what is passing, and cast away the passing.

Embodiments of Prema! Because you have performed the yajña all this time and listened to the sacred mantras, all of this has borne its fruit. While all of you sit here listening to the sacred mantras, as I came here the people all along the bazaar were remembering the Name of God: ‘Sairam, Sairam, Sairam....’ We must think of God constantly. This itself is true Bhakti. We must put into practice at least some of what we have learnt. Only then will our birth be fulfilled.
