Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

It is not good for the likes of you to revile him,” she said.

Ahaṅkāra and attachment are like poisonous fangs

Some other gods came and questioned Pārvatī: “He has the snakes of the anthill coiled about him, dear. Not knowing his secret, how could you choose him?” A snake has poison only in its teeth. But man today is poison from head to foot! Poison in his look, poison in what he hears, poison in his deeds! One who has filled himself with poison from head to foot in this way, you take to be a good man. If a snake's two fangs are taken out, it can do no harm to anyone. But man today carries the two poisonous fangs called Ahaṅkāra and attachment, and moves boldly about the whole world. He thinks he is great. Instead of seeing the Ahaṅkāra and attachment in himself as poisonous fangs, he takes them to be like nectar. This is a great mistake.

It brings one's wealth to ruin; it burns to ashes the honour one has; it sets one apart from one's own people; through pride, people lose everything.

Man today has filled his whole body with such poison. How can we set such humanness right!

Do not let worldly desires turn Prema into poison

Everyone loves God. Every human being lives by Prema alone. A human being without Prema is no human being at all. The Prema between God and man is the Prema of father and child. Whose fault is it that such sacred Prema is given false meanings? It is the influence of the vices that have found a place in society. Unable to understand rightly the sacred Prema of Laila and Majnu, people have been giving room to all sorts of crazy notions.
