In plain words
(On 14 April, at the gathering arranged in Sai Kulwant Hall to mark the Tamil New Year, before Bhagavān gave His divine message, Sri G. K. Raman, convener of the Sri Sathya Sai Trust of Tamil Nadu State, prayed to Swami: since the 25 km of canal from the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh border to Satyamurthy Sagar had fallen into ruin, the water was not flowing smoothly, and so he begged Swami to grant the work of its repair. Bhagavān began His divine discourse with this very mention of the canal's repair, and said that He Himself would have the repair work on that 25 km of canal done. The full text of Swami's address is printed below.)
As the devotees have said so far, I gave drinking water to Madras. I gave water to the crops too. But the repair of the canal went only as far as the Andhra border. The part that lies in Madras we did not touch at all. Up to there we made the canal good, with no trouble or loss at all, so that not even one drop of water seeps away. Up to there the water of the river Kṛṣṇā is arriving nicely, happily. But once it crosses the Andhra border, because the canal is not in proper order, some of the water is going to waste. On the Madras side, 25 kilometres of canal still need repair. That will cost thirty, forty crores. This is work for the Madras Government to do. But they have not done it. The discontent of ‘This work is still not finished!’ is troubling the people. So I will put right these remaining 25 kilometres of canal too, and I will see that the water supply to Madras runs well.
