Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Hold your mind still for some eleven seconds. Within those very eleven seconds ‘realisation’ will surely come to you. If the mind keeps going round like a clock, that cannot be called meditation. It is enough if you contemplate for eleven seconds. But you do not contemplate even for those eleven seconds. In these eleven seconds you can achieve a great deal. So do not put yourselves through needless strain in the name of sādhana. You are putting the body to great strain. You are wasting time, and money too. If you waste time, life itself is wasted. So do not waste time. Time is God. God is time. So whenever you find time, think of Swami. Then I will surely appear to you. Not only will I appear to you; I will even converse with you. Swami receives so many letters; they write, ‘Yesterday Swami came and spoke with me.’ You too keep such faith safe. Success will surely come to you.

You have all come as devotees. There is Bhakti in all of you. But you do not find out the mark of Bhakti. What, after all, is Bhakti? You must hold faith firmly. Where there is faith, there is Prema. Where there is Prema, there is Satya. Where there is Satya, there is God. Truth is God. Satya itself will be God for you. If you are to recognise Satya, eleven seconds are enough. Hold the mind in Satya for eleven seconds; that is enough. Within the eleventh second itself that vision will be yours. You needlessly sit for hours and hours, get pains in the legs, pains in the arms, pains in the back, and suffer a great deal. Doctors call these ‘rheumatic pains’. But these are not ‘rheumatic pains’. They are ‘pains’ that come from losing the way. You lost the way in those very eleven seconds. All these pains come precisely from missing that time. Do not miss that time, and no pain will come.

Besides this, take your meals regularly, on time. There are some subtle points in this. You must not eat meat. You must not eat fish. But foreigners are used mostly to a meat diet.
