Passage 5

In plain words

We must make no change and no imitation in our system of education. If we follow our own way, we can enjoy in the future too the very joy we enjoy in the present. Today many people are making all sorts of plans for the future. The future depends on the present. Do not brood over past; don't worry about future. Past is past; forget the past. (Do not grieve about what is gone; do not be anxious about what is to come.) Present is the chief thing. Both past and future lie contained in the present. So this is not ordinary present, it is omnipresent. We must put it to good use. In this present time, apart from the one Sathya Sai College, there is no other that follows the right method. To look at, it may seem a village life, but through it you will gain a great deal of progress in the future. So do not change the Sathya Sai system of education in the least.

Many people, worrying about the past and the future, go to ruin in their present life. There is no happiness for us in worrying about the future. ‘The past is past.’ How much happiness did they find in it? So be happy in the present. If wealth goes, it is no loss. But you must guard character. Only when you cultivate good qualities will your mind be ‘steady’. Such a mind is the very finest. Man goes on changing a great deal through the mind alone. Even parents are not teaching their children to make good use of the ‘present’. What use, then, is all the rest they do?! Our children, though, are making good use of the ‘present’ and progressing in many ways. They stand as an example to all.

What must we do in this ‘present’? We must cut down desires. Less luggage, more comfort makes travel a pleasure. We must not worry about the past.
