Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Though the forms differ, those who believe that the Ātma principle in all of them is one will never have any problem anywhere. Those with self-confidence gain everything, wherever they are.

Forgetting the basis is the root of troubles

Every wish a human being has, he wishes for himself alone. ‘I want this, I want that,’ he says. ‘Here is my body, here is my mind, here is my head,’ he says. But who is it that says ‘mine’? You say ‘my body’. Today and tomorrow it will be your body. The day after, where is your body?! You nurture it and raise it with so much love and trust. But this body does not belong to you. It is a ‘gift’ God has given. Every single thing is God's ‘gift’! This is a cloth. Where was it born from? Did it come from the sky? No, no. It came from cotton. From cotton the thread was made. That very thread turned into this cloth. So, if you want cloth, its basis is cotton itself. In the same way, everything has a fundamental basis. That is God. Only because we forget that principle of the basis do we fall into troubles of every kind.

‘God, God, God …’ you say. But where do you think God is? God is with you, in you, around you. You are God. You must hold that faith firmly in your mind. God does not leave you and go anywhere. God, called the Ātma, who is in so many crores of people, is One alone. In this world we see various names and various forms. But the Ātma principle in all of them is one. Ornaments differ; the gold is one. The jewels differ one from another, but when you melt them, what remains is gold alone, isn't it! So, embodiments of the divine Ātma! You must try to recognise the thing that is the basis. “I am separate, my mother is separate, my father is separate,” you think.
