In plain words
Education is what supports the inner life
Vidyā alone is your true property. Vidyā is what comes from the word ‘vid’. ‘Vid’ means light. Vidyā gives us light; it unravels the tangles and shows the way. You must not think that education came into being merely to help physical life, merely for man to sustain his life in this world. Even those without learning go on living this physical life. If, after learning many subjects and taking M.Sc., M.A. and M.B.A. degrees, you too enter that same path, what is the use of your degrees?! Today's education gives some help only to outward, physical life. Beyond that, one sees in it none of the supports fit for the ‘inner’ life. What are they? The first is Satya, the second Dharma, the third Śānti, the fourth Prema, the fifth Ahiṃsā. Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā alone are our true, secure and eternal forms. Satya itself is the chief root of everything.
From Satya all was created; in Satya all creation subsides; search as you may, where is the place without the glory of Satya? This is pure sattva: see it!
In this world, from the ant to the elephant, God alone is the creator of every living being. So not a single thing happens without God's will. Even the tiny ants you see are born only by God's will. Tyāgarāja said, “O Rāma, who bears the title of One who dwells, Prema overflowing, in the ant, in Brahmā, in Śiva, Keśava and the rest, protect me.” We read that one and the same divinity is in the ant and in Brahmā. But if an ant comes and stings us, we strike it and kill it at once. When that same Brahmā comes, we join both hands and bow.
