Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But today ‘sense control’ is nowhere to be seen. People let the senses run loose. Not in studies alone, but in conduct too we must show an example. For that we must keep our senses under control. God gave us the senses so that we might use them rightly and gain puṣṭi and santuṣṭi, and not so that we might enjoy sṛṣṭi as we please. The sense pleasures man enjoys today are enjoyed by worms and insects too. Even ants have young ones born to them. They too feed their families. So we need not worry about food and drink. We must have the faith that the God who created us will Himself sustain us.

True learning is in our own head, not in a book

Some go abroad because the pay is higher. There one can earn five thousand dollars a month. Compared with Indian currency, that comes to many lakhs. But there, the more the income, the more the loss. Instead of earning five thousand dollars there, it is enough for us to earn even five hundred here. Unable to recognise this truth, many people build up all kinds of hopes and go abroad. But what is there abroad? Broadness is within you. To leave it behind and go abroad is a great mistake. You need not go to foreign countries. Stay here and serve your parents. Teach your children the culture of Bhārata. That is true education. “Is everyone who has learnt to read and write a person of learning? Can learning without right understanding and good deeds be true learning?” No, no. Without right understanding and good deeds, all ‘education’ is meaningless! Teachers teach only what is in the books. But true learning is in our own head, not in a book.
