In plain words
We must make God happy. Then we will have made everyone in the world happy. If we satisfy God, everyone will be satisfied.
We long for happiness. But where is happiness? “Without singing to Hari there is no happiness, no Śānti”: that is why Guru Nānak began community bhajan. Some sing bhajan while dozing; others sing with their minds somewhere else. But when many gather, the mind of at least one will be fixed straight on God. So it is very good for many to gather and sing bhajan. Only then is the heart of God filled with Ānanda. Śivarātri means the auspicious night. Night comes every day. But not every night is a Śivarātri. The night on which the Name of God is remembered is the true Śivarātri. So even if you have not done so on other nights, at least on this Śivarātri you must take a good feeling into your heart and remember the Name of God.
