Passage 6

In plain words

Death has no fixed mark. Death is death. We should not think that it must come with certain signs. But as long as they live, we must not dishonour our parents. Your mother must never shed tears because of you. You must keep her happy always. That happiness itself will bring you a good return.

One who forgets his parents is not a man at all

I have said this before: I see them every day, both mother and father. They come and look at Me and are happy, and seeing them I smile too. Little children smile when they see us. And when we see them, we are happy too. In the same way, our parents are like our children. So we must never, thinking that we are grown up now, insult them, dishonour them or mock them. “Revere your mother as God, your father as God, your teacher as God, your guest as God.” The mother gives us the body. The father nourishes our body and gives us the openings we need to make progress in life. The guru teaches us knowledge. God gives us everything. So we must keep these four in mind and never forget them. Our parents must be in our heart at all times. Whatever hardship may come, we must never forget them. One who forgets his parents is not a man at all. If you forget your parents, you yourself are not. Our parents are our chief support and shelter. So we must strive with all our might to make them happy. However hard it may be, even if you must bring home alms, you must look after them. You must fulfil the wishes of their heart. If you do not fulfil the wishes of their heart, tomorrow you will reap the fruit of it. If today you cause your parents pain, tomorrow your children will cause you pain. “Reaction, reflection, resound”: no one can escape these.
