In plain words
At once Kṛṣṇa appeared and saved her honour. Why? Because the place where He dwells is your heart! If you keep God in your own heart and pray to Him thinking He is outside, however much you pray, it is of no use. You win outer things, money, gold, possessions and vehicles, but you cannot win the God who is within you. Seek God in yourself. Turn your gaze within. Look inside, don't look outside. Close your eyes and pray to the God who is within you. Then God will appear and do you every service. It is through the Name alone that one can see God face to face and win His grace. So, to make the remembrance of the Name grow, the singing of the Name through the streets was also begun. Even in this singing through the streets we must not merely heap up descriptions of God. A lakh of descriptions are of no use. It is enough to remember the Name with all your heart.
God is within you as the Ātma. The Ātma has no form. If someone asks, you may say, ‘I am Kṛṣṇa’, ‘I am Rāma’, ‘I am Sai Baba.’ Whose name is Sai Baba? It is the name given to this body. In the same way, names like Rāma and Kṛṣṇa are given, not born. What is born is the body, not the Ātma. The body that is born must die some day. The name that is not born and the name that is not given is one. ‘Sir! Who are You?’: ask God this, and He says, ‘I am Brahman’; He does not say, ‘I am such and such a form.’ ‘I’ has no form of its own. ‘I’ is the name of the Ātma itself. So we must call on Him who is the Ātma; there is no use in calling on a form alone. We give the one Ātma many names and are happy. We strive so hard for our own petty satisfaction. This satisfaction lasts only a moment! The Ātma alone is everlasting, true and eternal.
Many thousands of years ago the name ‘Rāma’ came. That name alone remains now. Whatever trouble comes to anyone, he says, ‘Ayyo, Rāma!’
