In plain words
They are there too. But do they have any happiness or Śānti? Though there are very great learned people, is there peace in the world? No. The reason? All the learning you study, you study only to earn your bread. Along with this learning that concerns the outer world, you must also study the learning called ‘Educare’, which concerns what is within, which concerns the Ātma. The Ātma is everywhere; it is in all human beings. So man must recognise the truth “I am Brahman”. Looking only at the body, he thinks he is a man; but in truth he is none other than the embodiment of God!
Only one who has human qualities is a man
The very first of the human qualities is Satya. Has it any form? No. Prema seems to exist only when it is shown to others; but it too has no form. Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā are without form. They are in our heart itself, but they cannot be seen. When Prema arises, hatred is not to be seen at all, and violence does not exist at all. Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā alone are the human qualities, the marks of humanness. These alone are the values of man! But today you do not learn what human values are. Earning money in plenty and putting it in the bank, piling up property: this, you think, is the great ‘human value’. You think this alone is the supreme aim of education. You let go of Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā, and take up everything else. Kāma, krodha, lobha, moha: all these are the marks of beasts. When these rear their heads in you, you must tell yourself, “I am not a beast; I am a man, a man, a man.” To say to yourself “I am a man” is not enough; only if there are human qualities in you are you a man. You may read many books and win a name as a great scholar, a man of great learning; but if there are no human qualities in you at all, you are no man at all.
