In plain words
Precisely because it is such a holy place, Vāmana came down there and brought great glory to Kerala. Vāmana, who was only three feet tall, asked Bali for a gift of just three feet. “Aṇoraṇīyān mahato mahīyān.” God is subtler in form than the atom, mightier than the vast. That is why Vāmana could take in the earth with one foot and the sky with the second. God Himself came in person to give Bali Mokṣa. To no one else did He give such good fortune. This was the merit Bali had earned. Because God granted him such good fortune, everyone rejoiced and went on extolling the Vāmana Avatāra in glowing terms. After the Matsya, Kūrma, Varāha and Nārasiṃha Avatāras, that was the first time God came in human form. This Onam is the very day on which Vāmana granted Bali Mokṣa. That is why the people of Kerala celebrate this festival so grandly. Not even their birthdays do they celebrate as grandly as this. On this day all the people of Kerala keep divinity alone as their goal. To come close to divinity in this way is very great good fortune.
Not ‘Communist’, but ‘Come-you-next’!
Every time the people of Kerala come here, they keep calling, “Swami, You must come to Kerala, You must come to Kerala.” “I will come, I will come, I will come,” I said. At no time did I say that I would not come. Whoever asks, I say I will come. So one day I will go to Kerala. I will show the people there the mighty strength and ability of Kerala. Kerala has very great good fortune. Vāmana is enshrined in Kerala. Bhakti and surrender dance in the hearts of those people. There, no one is without the thought of the Name in their heart. They do not speak of it outwardly, but inwardly they keep remembering. Those who look from outside call it ‘Kerala, the Communist State’. But not ‘Communist’: ‘Come-you-next’! That word teaches so great an inner meaning. Little Bal Vikas children come into Swami's presence.
