In plain words
“Speak the truth, practise Dharma”: that is the chief teaching of the culture of Bhārata. Satya and Dharma alone are the property of the people of Bhārata. But today the people of Bhārata have forgotten Satya and Dharma. “Truth slain, Dharma imprisoned”: by following a path of this kind the people of Bhārata have become slaves. Each one must ask, ‘Who am I?’, and remind oneself, ‘I am not an animal, I am not a beast; I am a human being.’ When one thinks, ‘I am a human being’, the qualities of a human being must be in oneself. What are they? The first is Satya. “There is no Dharma higher than Satya.” Dharma is precisely what arose from this Satya. Resting on these two alone, Śānti and Prema go on shining in us. Where there is Prema, there hatred and jealousy do not exist. But today that Prema can no longer be seen in man. Man does not love his fellow man. If Bhārata has come to this state today, the only reason is the lack of unity! Only when there is ‘unity’ does ‘purity’ grow in us. Only when ‘purity’ grows does ‘divinity’ come forth. So today we must have, above all, ‘unity’.
Self-confidence is the very foundation of the mansion of life
Today scientists are discovering as many things as they want; they send people travelling in planes set one above another. But how many deaths are taking place! In the past there was nothing like this. In those days people lived in happiness and peace, without the least fear. But today they are afraid even of small things. Where has this fear come from? “This Ātma is not won by one without strength”: man's losing the strength of the Ātma is the very reason for this. Man today has no faith in the Ātma. He believes in everything, but he cannot believe in the Ātma. Only when there is ‘self-confidence’ does ‘self-satisfaction’ come. Only when ‘self-satisfaction’ comes does ‘self-sacrifice’ become possible.
