In plain words
Man must first grasp the truth. The more truly we grasp it, the more our religious quarrels and sectarian differences will diminish. Because the name 'devout in Dharma' applies only to those who have attained experience of God, only to those who have attained direct realization of God. Only to those who have beheld that Supreme Being, immanent in all things, can the knots of the heart be severed. Mere idle chatter is not religious truth; it is only to experience that the name 'devout in Dharma' applies. Only when we grasp this can we, having examined our own hearts, discover how far we have travelled in the direction of religious truth. We will realize that we are groping about, caught in darkness, our eyes unable to see, and that we bring others too into that same darkness and cause them to grope about as well. Only then will we give up setting up religious differences, quarreling, and waging war. You should question, in this way, anyone who starts a religious quarrel: Have you seen God? Have you beheld the Ātma? If not, what authority do you have to preach God's name? You who grope about, caught in darkness — are you trying to drag me too into that same darkness? Can a blind man show the way to another blind man? One may well tell him: not talk, but experience; first discover your own truth for yourself.
