In plain words

It is precisely because love of God and fear of sin have stood, steadfastly, as the principal phase within the spiritual sphere, that the land of Bharat has earned renown as a sacred land, a land of yoga, and a land of renunciation. Within that soil, many captivating inspirations have been found. Does an abstract, philosophical definition of Truth really appeal to those whose natures are given to emotional fervor? To them, God is a tangible, knowable presence — the one and only real entity there is. To devotees, He is the giver of Prema — so may their God remain theirs! The rationalistic arguments of others strike them the way the fool in the old story does: the man who brought a hammer and smashed the idol. Bhakti-yoga teaches them the path of Prema — teaching that one must not love while looking ahead to further gain. What fault, after all, is there in loving others? That is good for everyone. Since Prema itself is the Paramātma, the Paramātma dwells in every single person as the very embodiment of Prema. So the bhakti-yogi comes to regard every act of loving as loving Paramātma alone, and never another.

Some love Īśvara as a mother, others as a father, still others as a friend; and him alone as husband and as their final refuge — loving him in every way — so that their own Prema merges with His Prema. Wherever Prema exists, it is He Himself. That is to say, God alone is the Great Being who loves the whole human race. Whenever someone tries to do good to others, God generously pours out the nectar of his own Prema upon the human world; and whenever a heart grows generous, he is there, graciously pleased. This, precisely, is bhakti-yoga.

Now, raja yoga. Raja yoga is the act of bringing the mind under one's own control. In this yoga there is no need to give up one's own intellect in any respect whatsoever, nor any need to be deceived by others. There is no need to surrender your intellect to any kind of religious teachers either. In everything, you must depend upon your own intellect alone.
