In plain words
5. Vidyā is what determines the principle of Paramātma
The principle of Vidyā is what determines the spiritual quality and nature, or the principle of Paramātma. The science of moral principles: this is Vidyā with direct proof. The principle is to take what religion approves, the principle of Vidyā, make it dear to the people, and live accordingly. This is what we have called philosophy. “Philosophy means love of Jñāna.” Jñāna is a treasure of boundless worth. To have Prema for Jñāna and toil hard to gain Jñāna is “Vidyā”. “Vidyā” must try, and does try, to give an account of the reality behind the form. To gain knowledge of what truly is, and to realise it: that is what is called “Vidyā”. Vidyā is the art of the complete life. The philosophy of the West is full of ideas. The philosophy of the East is full of realities.
