అంధకారంబెల్ల హతమారునేచూడవసుధలో దీపంపు వార్త వలనఆకొన్న వారికి ఆకలి తీరునేపంచభక్ష్యపు పేర్లు పరగ విన్ననిరుపేదవాని పేదరికంబు పోవునేవిత్త ప్రభావంబు విన్నయంతరోగపీడితుని బల్ రోగాలు పోవునాఔషథ మహిమము అంతవిన్నశాస్త్రజాలంబునంతయు చదివినంతదట్టమైనట్టి అజ్ఞాన తమము తెగునఆచరణలేని విద్యలు అవనియందుదండి నేర్చిన ఫలమేమి? గుండుసున్న.

In plain words

Look, does all the darkness die at the news of a lamp on the earth? Is the hunger of the hungry appeased by hearing the names of the five kinds of delicacies spelt out? Does a pauper's poverty go merely by hearing of the power of wealth? Do a sick man's grave illnesses go by hearing all the wonders of medicine? By reading the whole mass of the śāstras, is the dense darkness of Ajñāna cut away? Of learning in this world that is not practised, though learnt in plenty, what is the fruit? A round zero.
