17Krsna, whose hearing and whose praising are themselves purifying, stands within the heart of those who hear his story and shakes out of them what is ill. He is the friend of the good. 18When what is ill has been all but destroyed by constant attendance on the Bhagavata, devotion to the Bhagavan of highest renown becomes settled and unshakeable. 19Then the states that belong to passion and darkness, desire and greed and the rest, no longer pierce the mind; unpierced, resting in clarity, it grows calm. 20With the mind thus made calm by devotion to the Bhagavan, and attachment let go, a full knowing of what the Bhagavan is comes to birth.
21The knot of the heart is broken open, every doubt is cut through, and a man's works wear away, once the Lord has been seen within the self. 22So it is that the wise, always and with the greatest gladness, give to Vasudeva the Bhagavan a devotion that settles the self.
