Twice-born ones, though he was thus always at work for the good of beings, and with his whole being, his heart even so was not satisfied. His heart not much at ease, seated apart on the clean bank of the Sarasvati, turning it over, the knower of dharma said this: With my vows held firm and without any pretence, I have honoured the metres, the teachers and the fires, and I have taken up what they instruct. And under the name of the Bharata the meaning of the tradition has been shown, where dharma and the rest can be seen even by women and by sudras. Yet even so, alas, my embodied self, and the pervading self as well, appear unfulfilled, for all that they stand highest in the lustre of sacred learning.
