With my vow unbroken I go about the three worlds, within and without, my going nowhere hindered, by the favour of the great Visnu. Tuning this vina that the god gave me, adorned with the Brahman that is sound, I go about singing the story of Hari. As I sing out his own great deeds, he whose feet are the holy fords, whose hearing is dear, comes swiftly into sight within my mind, as though he had been called. For those whose minds are made sick again and again by the wish to touch what the senses reach, this telling over of Hari's doings has been found to be the boat across the sea of becoming. The self, struck again and again by desire and by greed, is not stilled outright by the paths of yoga, by restraint and the rest, as it is by the service of Mukunda.

Sinless one, all of this that you asked of me I have now told: the secret of my birth and of my deeds, which will bring contentment to your own self as well.
