Hearing this, Yudhisthira asked him, as he lay in that cage of arrows, about the dharmas in their several kinds, while the sages listened. He set out those laid down according to a person's own nature, class by class and stage by stage, handed down with marks of both kinds, according to detachment or to attachment; the duties of giving, the duties of kings, the duties that lead to release, each in its own division; the duties of women, and the duties owed to the Bhagavan, both in brief and at length. And, sage, the knower of what is true described dharma, wealth, desire and release, together with the means to each, as they are, throughout many tales and histories.

While he was thus setting forth dharma, that season came round which a yogin who dies at will desires: the sun's northward turning.
