Having in this way entered his self into the Self, into Krsna, the Bhagavan, by the workings of mind and speech and sight, he came to rest, his breath drawn in. Knowing that Bhisma was passing into the partless Brahman, they all fell silent, like birds at the ending of the day. There kettledrums sounded, beaten by gods and by men; the good among kings spoke his praise; and showers of flowers fell from the sky. Bhargava, when he had passed on, Yudhisthira had the carrying out of the body and the rest performed, and for a while he was struck with grief. The sages, gladdened, praised Krsna with his hidden names; and then, with Krsna in their hearts, they went back again to their own hermitages.

Then Yudhisthira went with Krsna to the city named for the elephant and consoled his father's brother, and Gandhari, who was given to austerity. With his uncle's leave and with Vasudeva's approval, the mighty king ruled by dharma the realm of his father and his forefathers.
