11Guarded by the Madhus and Bhojas, Dasarhas, Arhas, Kukuras, Andhakas and Vrsnis, whose strength was equal to his own, as Bhogavati is guarded by the serpents. 12Its splendour was the splendour of a lotus pool, set about with gardens and groves and pleasure grounds, with holy trees and creepers and hermitages, rich in every season. 13At its gate towers and doorways and along its roads, festal arches had been raised; and within, the sun was kept off by the tips of bright standards and banners. 14Its great roads and streets and market places and squares were swept, sprinkled with scented water, and strewn with fruit and flowers and unhusked grain and fresh shoots.
15And at the door of every house it was adorned with curds and grain and fruit and sugarcane, with full jars, with offerings, with incense and with lamps.
