The four feet, and the earth's grief· Verses 24–27

Austerity, cleanness, compassion, truth: these were made your feet in the Krta age. Three of them are broken by the portions of wrongdoing, by pride and clinging and drunkenness. Now, Dharma, the foot left you is truth, by which you may still keep going; and this wrongdoing, this Kali, grown fat on falsehood, means to seize even that. And this earth, whose great burden was set down by the Bhagavan, was made glad on every side by the beautiful setting down of his feet. Now she grieves with her tears, a good woman abandoned and out of luck, thinking: sudras with no reverence for brahmanas, kings only in pretence, will feed upon me.
