35So ordered by Pariksit, Kali began to shake, and said this to him as he stood there with his sword raised, like the rod-bearer with his rod lifted: 36Wherever I go to live by your order, emperor of the whole earth, there too, in every place, I make out you, with arrow and bow taken up. 37So, best of those who uphold dharma, be pleased to point me out a place where I may live, held to it, standing by what you lay down for me. 38So begged, he gave Kali his places: gambling, drink, women and slaughter, in which wrongdoing is of four kinds. 39And when he begged again, the master gave him gold; and from that come falsehood, drunkenness, desire, passion, and enmity as the fifth.
40In these five places, given him by Uttara's son, Kali, in whom wrongdoing has its rise, took up his living, doing as he had been told.
