17So the king, steady and set on his resolve, having laid his burden on his own son, sat facing north on kusa grass whose roots pointed east, on the southern bank of the sea's wife. 18And when that god among kings had sat down to fast to death, the companies of gods in heaven praised him and scattered flowers upon the earth in gladness, and the drums sounded again and again. 19The great sages who had gathered there praised him, saying: well done. And being men whose whole strength is kindness to people, they spoke what befits the qualities of him whose renown is highest. 20Best of royal sages, this is no wonder in you who follow Krsna closely: you who at once left the seat that royal crowns wait upon, wanting to be at the side of the Bhagavan.
21We shall all stay here now until this man, first among the Lord's own, leaves his body and goes to the highest world, which has no dust in it and no grief.
