God of gods, salutation to you, maker of beings, first-born. Make known that knowledge which shows the truth of the self. Lord, what is its form, what is its ground, from what was this created, in what does it rest, and what lies beyond it? Tell that truth as it truly is. For you know all of this, being lord of what has been and what will be and what is; the universe is settled within your understanding, like a myrobalan held in the palm. By whose knowledge, upon whose support, beyond whom, and of whose nature you are: alone you create beings out of beings by your own maya. You bring them forth within yourself and are not yourself overcome by them, resting upon your own power, tireless as a spider.

Mighty one, I know nothing here higher than you, nor lower, nor equal, nothing to be conceived by name and form and quality, real or unreal, from any other source. Yet you, being what you are, practised terrible austerity with a mind wholly gathered; and by that you trouble us, and give rise to the suspicion of something higher. Knower of all, lord of all, make all this known to me who ask, so that, being taught, I may understand it as it is.
