From the tamasa, the source of the elements, as it changed, came space; its measure and quality is sound, which is the mark of the seer and the seen. Then from space as it changed came air, whose quality is touch; and by inheritance from what came before it has sound as well; and it is breath, vigour, endurance and strength. From air as it changed, through time and action and nature, there arose fire, which has form, and touch and sound besides. From fire as it changed came water, whose nature is taste; and water has form and touch, and sound too, by inheritance. From water as it changed came the particular thing that possesses smell, endowed by inheritance with the qualities of taste and touch and sound and form.

From the vaikarika arose mind, and the ten vaikarika gods: the quarters, wind, sun, Pracetas, the Asvins, fire, Indra, Upendra, Mitra and Ka. From the taijasa as it changed came the ten senses; the power of knowledge and the power of action, understanding and breath, are both taijasa: ear, skin, nose, eye and tongue; speech, hands, the generative organ, feet and anus.
