The person who belongs to the self is that same one who belongs to the gods; and the one there who cuts the two apart is the person who belongs to the elements. When one of them is missing we cannot get hold of the other. The one who knows all three of them there is the self, whose ground is his own ground. When the Person had broken the egg open and come out of it, looking for a place of his own, he, being clean, sent forth the clean waters. In those waters he had sent forth he lived a thousand full years; and because the waters rose from the Person, his name is Narayana. Substance, work, time, own-nature, and the living being itself are, by his grace; and by his turning away from them, they are not.
