The sense of I and its three kinds· Verses 29–32

From the great principle as it changed, the principle of I was born, whose self is the work and the cause and the doer, and which is made of the elements and the senses and the mind. I-making is of three kinds: the vaikarika, the taijasa and the tamasa. From the principle of I as it changed, from the vaikarika, the mind came to be, and those gods that are vaikarika, from whom things are shown forth. From the taijasa come the senses themselves, those of knowing and those of doing. From the tamasa comes the first of the subtle elements, and from it space, which is the mark of the self. Space, looked upon by the Bhagavan through his joining with time and maya and his own portion, changed and made touch, which follows on space, and out of touch the wind.
