35And by what the Bhagavan is pleased, Janardana, the womb of dharma, and with whom he is well satisfied: tell this too, faultless one. 36To pupils who follow and to sons, best of the twice-born, teachers who are tender to the poor will speak even what has not been asked of them. 37Revered one, in how many ways do those principles go back again? And in that going back, who stand near him, and who lie down along with him? 38And the standing of the Person, and the very form of the highest; and that knowledge which comes down in the tradition, which is the business of teacher and pupil. 39And the causes of it that the faultless wise have spoken of here; for how should men come by knowledge on their own, or devotion, or detachment?
40These are the questions I put to you, wanting to know the works of Hari. Speak to me out of friendship: I know nothing, and my eye has been destroyed by the unborn one. 41All the Vedas, faultless one, and the sacrifices and the austerities and the gifts, would not make up even a fraction of the giving of freedom from fear to a living being. 42Asked in this way about the ancient order by the chief of the Kurus, the chief of sages, his gladness swelling and urged on into the story of the Bhagavan, spoke to him, and it was almost a laugh.
