The time that eats up three motes is called a truti. The hundred-part of these is a vedha, and three of those are called a lava. Three lavas are to be known as a blink; three of those are handed down as a moment. Five moments they know as a kastha, and fifteen of those a laghu. Fifteen laghus are handed down together as a nadika. Two of those make a muhurta; six or seven make a prahara, a watch, in the reckoning of men. The measure of it is six palas' weight, with a hole bored in it by four gold masas four fingers long, for as long as it takes a prastha of water to flood in.
