Once, as the maker was thinking, How shall I make the worlds as they were put together before, the Vedas came out of his four mouths. The office of the four priests, the whole working of rites, with the lesser Vedas and the rules of guidance; the four feet of dharma; and so too the courses of the stages of life. That lord of the world's makers brought forth the Vedas and the rest from his mouths. Tell me, you whose wealth is austerity, what the god made and out of what. With his mouths, beginning from the eastern one and in order, he made the Vedas called Rk, Yajus, Saman and Atharvan, and the teaching, the offering, the praise and the chant, and the setting right of what has gone wrong.

And in order, with his mouths beginning from the eastern one, he brought forth his own Veda of long life, the Veda of the bow, the Veda of music, and the Veda of building. The Lord who sees everything brought forth the histories and the ancient tellings, a fifth Veda, out of all his mouths together.
