16Those two first Daityas, their own strength showing itself at once, grew with bodies hard as iron, like two lords among mountains. 17Touching the sky with the points of their golden crowns, blocking the quarters, their arms bright with armlets, shaking the earth with their feet at every step, they stood, passing beyond the sun, their waists finely girdled. 18The lord of creatures made names for the two: him of the twins who was conceived first from his body, people know as Hiranyakasipu; and him whom she delivered first, as Hiranyaksa. 19Hiranyakasipu, by his own arms and by Brahma's boon, brought the three worlds with their guardians under his sway, and, having death from no quarter, grew insolent.
20Hiranyaksa, his younger brother, dear to him and doing him pleasure day by day, went up to heaven with mace in hand, eager to fight and looking for a battle.
