Lying down in a body stretched out at full length, thinking many thoughts, and finding that the sending out did not grow, he threw that body off in anger. The hairs that fell from it there were born as snakes, dear one; and as it crept away came cruel serpents, and nagas with broad hoods on their necks. Then the self-born one, thinking himself as good as done with his work, sent forth from his mind at the last the Manus, who bring the worlds into being. He who has himself in hand gave over to them his own dwelling, the human shape. Seeing them, those who had been sent out before praised the lord of creatures. Maker of this world, this is well done indeed. In these the rites have their standing ground, and we shall eat our food together.

Joined with austerity, with knowledge, with yoga and with a good gathering of the mind, the seer, the lord of the senses, sent forth the seers, the creatures he had wanted. And to each one of them the unborn gave a portion of his own body: the portion in which the gathering of the mind, yoga, abundance, austerity, knowledge and detachment are held.
