Revered one, tell of the line of Svayambhuva Manu, which is held in the highest regard, in which creatures grew by the coupling of man and woman. Priyavrata and Uttanapada were the two sons of Svayambhuva, and they guarded the earth with her seven islands as dharma required. Brahmin, blameless one, his daughter was famous as Devahuti, and you spoke of her as the wife of Kardama, a lord of creatures. When she was joined to him and had the marks of yoga upon her, in how many ways did that great yogin send forth his power? Tell me that, for I want to hear it. And how did the revered Ruci, brahmin, or Daksa the son of Brahma, bring forth beings, once each had a daughter of Manu for a wife?
