Told by Brahma to send forth creatures, the revered Kardama did austerity on the Sarasvati for ten thousand years. Then, by a yoga of rites joined to the gathering of the mind, Kardama came in devotion to Hari, who gives what is asked to those who come to him. By then the Bhagavan whose eyes are lotuses was pleased, Ksatta, and in the Krta age he showed himself to him, wearing a body that is Brahman as sound. He saw him spotless, with the look of the sun, wearing a garland of white lotuses and water-lilies, his lotus face set about with sleek dark curls, his garment without a stain, crowned, with earrings on, holding conch and wheel and mace, a white water-lily for his plaything, his smiling glance touching the mind,

his lotus feet set on the shoulder of Garuda, standing there in the sky, splendour on his chest and the Kaustubha at his throat. Seeing this, delight rose in him, and he fell to the ground on his head with his heart's wish granted; and with his hands joined, his self all love by its nature, he praised him in words.
